Full support for law making domestic abuse an aggravating factor

20 January 2025

ManKind Initiative fully supports Josh Babarine MP’s proposed new law to make domestic abuse an aggravating factor in sentencing

Mark Brooks, Chair of the ManKind Initiative, said:

“We fully support Josh Babarine MP’s proposed new law to introduce domestic abuse aggravated offences. His Private Members Bill would also formally recognise domestic abuse as a specific offence. This proposal would help build more protection against perpetrators of domestic abuse being released under any early release scheme for prisoners.

“This scheme excludes prisoners convicted of sexual and certain domestic abuse offences from early release because they have been convicted of general offences such as ‘common assault’ or ‘actual bodily harm’ (ABH). This creates gaps in protection that leave men, women and child survivors vulnerable.

“We have always been supportive of proposals, no matter the type of government or politician, that will better support all victims and survivors of domestic abuse. It is why we fully endorse Josh Babarine MP’s proposal, we urge this government to agree to these proposals.”
